Os Colares de Inverno não começaram por ser colares…nem
sequer em lã. Começaram pelo fecho.
No final do Verão eu quis fazer uma colecção original de lenços
mas já comecei demasiado tarde. Queria uma coisa escultórica, com volume (como
eu adoro volume!!!) e que não fosse apenas um tecido ou malha mas que
mantivesse quase intacta a virgindade do material. Para isso pensei colocar nos
lenços um fecho.
Fiquei entusiasmada com a ideia e desenhei fechos, procurei
fechos, corri todos os lugares que conhecia onde pudesse haver fechos e ainda
descobri meia dúzia de lugares novos…mas nada me satisfazia. Tinha uma ideia
vaga do que queria e não conseguia chegar a uma solução gratificante. Eu sou
muito difícil de agradar em alguns aspectos e no trabalho, demoro sempre
bastante tempo até sentir que a minha exigência foi satisfeita. Neste tempo
todo, passou o momento dos lenços e veio o frio. Ora com frio, eu pensei que já
não valia a pena lançar uma colecção de lenços e pus-me a pensar noutras peças
e noutros modelos.
Estava a tricotar peças, estava a começar a loja online noEtsy e o site. Tudo aquilo me ocupou imenso e, como me
acontece sempre, é quando tiro alguma preocupação da cabeça que o problema se
resolve – é uma técnica muito zen, que comigo só funciona por intervalo, pois é
muito raro eu decidir-me a largar a ideia que me ocupa, antes de a solucionar.
Um belo dia estava com a minha avó a fazer uma peça nova – uns aventais que não
cheguei a apresentar – e ela veio com a conversa de sempre. “Costureira sem
dedal coze pouco e mal.” Nós rimo-nos à gargalhada sempre que ela diz isso – e
eu sou mesmo um pouco avessa a costurar com dedais porque me incomodam…mas ela
tem razão (…é a experiência!). Quando saí da dolorosa sessão de costura (são
sempre dolorosas, embora eu saiba fazer várias coisas em costura porque tive a
sorte de ter esta avó a ensinar-me ao longo da vida, não é de todo a minha
coisa preferida no mundo… Já fiz peças de raiz, como umas calças que adoro, mas
fazê-las é sempre um bocado chato) e voltei para casa, o problema do fecho dos
lenços tinha-se solucionado magicamente! Eram dedais, aquilo de que eu
precisava!!
Daí ao fecho de prata foi um pulinho. Entretanto, como
estava a ficar frio e eu já tinha apresentado a Colecção Vinhas (estávamos no
início do Outono), comecei a pensar em lã e na Colecção de Inverno. Sempre que
vou a uma loja, seja do que for, fico maravilhada com as prateleiras cheias de
produtos – as porcas e parafusos, as máquinas todas lado a lado, as lãs e
linhas, os botões… e porque gosto muito dos materiais o mais virgens possível,
achei que a lã desta vez, pelo menos numa colecção, não deveria ser tão
trabalhada como foi no ano passado. Fiz várias excursões às casas onde me
abasteço. Andei a estudar e desenhar modelos. Cheguei a este que vos apresentei
durante o Inverno – o colar com fecho de prata 995 e dedais. Modifiquei-o
várias vezes – adicionei-lhe contas de vidro, pérolas, guizos metálicos;
mudei-lhe as dimensões para quem não gosta tanto de volume (como é possível não
gostar de volume, pergunto eu que sou maluca por ele?? :D)… Entretanto criei
outro modelo um pouco maior…mas é diferente, parece-me que vão gostar quando
colocar as fotos aqui. Há coisas que os identificam para além do fecho, como o
tipo de lã e a dupla de tons (até agora só um deles tem mais do que dois tons –
o colar Boneca, que eu adoptei para mim mas pode ser recriado, para quem gostar
da junção de vários tons e da lã de Alpaca).
Claro que agora, com o problema solucionado, a colecção de
lenços vai rebentar por aí, mais semana, menos semana. Por enquanto e com este
frio todo, os colares dão um jeitaço! Andamos todas de pescoço quentinho e sem
ser denunciadas por uma peça de exterior como as golas e os cachecóis. A mim
dá-me imenso jeito, especialmente no local de trabalho – e a vocês?
Passa também por uma questão de intimidade (ando a trabalhar
este tema da intimidade desde o Verão e, é claro, estendeu-se à meNENices…há
coisas que se espraiam por várias áreas da vida e eu achei que o tema da
Escultura caía muito bem no Design & Crafts que faço aqui).
Talvez este ano de 2013 possam ver os Colares de Inverno
numa loja ou feira de artesanato perto de vós…ando a pensar nisso – o que vos
parece?

The Winter
Necklaces didn’t start out by being necklaces…or even in wool. They started by
the lock.
In the end
of the Summer I wanted to do an original collection of scarves but I started
too late. I wanted something sculptorical, with volume (how I love volume!!!)
which wasn’t just a fabric or knit but also that would keep almost intact the
virginity of the material. For that I thought of adding a lock to the scarves.
I was
thrilled with the idea and draw locks, searched for locks, I went to all kinds
of places I knew that could have locks and even discovered a couple new
ones…but nothing satisfied me. I had a vague idea of what I wanted and couldn’t
reach a gratifying solution. I’m very hard to please in some ways and, at work,
I always take a long time until I feel my demands have been fulfilled. During
all this time, the moment for scarves passed and then came the cold weather.
Well, with cold weather I thought there was no use in launching a scarves collection
and started thinking of other pieces and other models.
I was
knitting pieces, starting the online shop on Etsy and the site. All that
occupied me a lot and, as it always happens to me, it’s when I take a
preoccupation out of my head that the problem solves itself – it’s a really zen
technique, that for me only works by taking a break, for it’s very rare to
decide to let go of an idea that’s been with me, before I find a solution for
it. One fine day I was with my grandmother doing a new piece – some aprons I
haven’t yet presented – and she did the same old talk. “A seamstress without a
thimble, works little and poorly” (in Portuguese, this saying is a funny rhyme
that loses its joy when translated). We laugh our hearts out every time she
says this – and I’m really a bit against seaming with thimbles on, because they
annoy me but she’s right (…it’s the experience!). When I got out of the painful
seaming session (they are always painful, although I know how to sew several
things because I’m lucky to have had this grandmother teaching me throughout my
life, it’s not at all my favorite thing in the world… I’ve done pieces from
scratch, like pants that I love, but doing them is always a bit annoying) and came
back home, the problem of the scarves’ lock had solved itself magically! It was
thimbles that I needed!!
From there
to the sterling silver lock, it didn’t take any time. Meanwhile, it was getting
cold and I already had presented the Vineyards Collection (it was the beginning
of Fall), so I started thinking about wool and in the Winter Collection. Every
time I go to a store, whatever it sells, I’m marveled by the shelves full of products
– the nuts and bolts, the machinery side by side, the yarns and buttons…and
because I love so much the virginity of the materials, I thought this time,
even if just on one collection, the wool shouldn’t be so worked up as it was last year. I did many excursions to the houses where I buy
my stash. I was studying and drawing models. I came to
this one that I presented you during the Winter – the necklace with sterling
silver 995 lock and silver plated thimbles. I modified it several times – added
glass beads, pearls, metal bells; I changed the dimensions to suit the clients
who don’t have my volume fever (how is it possible, I ask, I’m crazy about it!!
:D)… Meanwhile I created another model a little bigger…but it’s different, I
think you’ll like it when I publish the pics here. There are things which
identify them beyond the lock, like the type of wool and the double shades (so
far I’ve only created one with more than two shades – the Doll necklace, which
I adopted to myself but can be recreated, for someone who likes joining several
colors and the Alpaga yarn).
Of course
with the problem solved, the scarves collection will burst out there, any week
now. In the meantime, and in all this cold, the necklaces come really handy!
We walk by
in warm necks and without being given away by an outdoors accessory like the
cowls and the scarves. For me it’s really important, especially at work – how

It’s also
about intimacy (I’m working on this theme of intimacy since the Summer and, of
course, it spread to meNENices…there are things that spread through many areas
of my life and I thought the Sculpture theme went really well in the Design
& Crafts I do here).

year of 2013 you’ll be able to see the Winter Necklaces on a physical shop or
